When a blogger friend reached out to me and asked if I would like to join a blog hop for a thrift store challenge- I couldn’t say yes fast enough! It includes two of my favorite things: 1.) Thrifting 2.) Being a part of an inspiring community.

Here’s what the challenge was:

• Go to our favorite thrift store and create a “warm and cozy” space with thrift store finds (while staying on a budget).

If you’ve followed my page for any length of time, you know I am ALL about warm and cozy decor! Creating a space full of warmth is easier than it may appear. Why? Because, chances are you already have everything you need, and if you don’t- your local Goodwill/ thrift store will!

When creating a cozy space, I make sure to include these staples:

• Pillows
• Candlesticks
• Textured baskets
• Throw blankets

This is also a great starting place of what to look for at a thrift store.

For this challenge, I went to Goodwill because of the 1/2 off Saturday sale. I budgeted for $15, but came in under budget at a total of $12.86! There are a few simple DIY’S I included, but don’t let that scare you away. When I say simple…I mean realllly simple 😉

Ready to go shopping??

Price Breakdown:

(Brand New) Better Homes and Garden Pillow: $2

Over sized Wicker Basket: $4

Fabric Napkin: $.50 each ($1 total)

Burlap Coffee Sack: .99 cents (Originally $1.99 but got it 1/2 off original price)

Chair: $4.00 (Note: I got the chair and candlesticks from Goodwill back in October, but since it was still a Goodwill find, I included it & the price in this challenge)

Candle sticks: .50 cents for large candle stick and .37 cents for small candlestick. TOTAL= .87 cents

GRAND TOTAL: $12.86

Now for the fun part! Here is a peak of what I did with the items from Goodwill.

As you can see, the burlap coffee bag became wall art (already had the black frame on hand), the fabric napkins turned into a small pillow, and the basket & seat cover got updated with paint.  See quick and simple tutorials below:

No Sew Fabric Napkin Pillow:

Requires only 3 materials:

1. Fabric glue (or hot glue gun)
2. Set of fabric napkins
3. Poly- fil padding

4 Easy Steps: 

Step 1: Lay napkins on top of each other.

Step 2: Glue only 3 side of the napkins, leaving 1 open gap to allow room to stuff with the poly-fil

Step 3: Stuff pillow with Poly- fil

Step 4: After the pillow is stuffed with padding, glue the remaining side that has the open gap.

Burlap Coffee Sack Wall Art:

Materials Needed: 

1. Burlap Sack
2. Empty Frame
3. Fabric Scissors
4. Staple Gun

2 Step Tutorial:

Step 1: Use the empty frame to “frame out” the section of the burlap sack you would like to use. Use the frame to measure where you will need to cut.

Step 2: 

Flip the entire frame over so the back is facing up. Use staple gun to secure burlap sack to the frame.

Done and done!

Ready to see the final look???

Tip: Store and drape blankets in baskets. This serves as a practical use while easily adding coziness to a space. Adding pillows to a basket is another practical and cute look.

Tip: Layer frame of different shapes and sizes to add visual interest in shelving/ mantle decor

Tip: Include some sort of greenery- especially when decorating with neutral tones
