When it comes to decorating seasonally, it can definitely be a strain on the budget. There are a few areas in our home I focus on when updating it seasonally– one of those places is the dining room table. I’ve found that the dining room table is a simple way to decorate with the seasons while keeping it budget friendly. In this post, I’m going to share how I used thrift store/ yard sale items to make a tablescape that’ll work with any season!
Thrifted Look #1:
Here is a quick price breakdown of the items I used:
- Wooden cutting board: $1.00
- 4 wooden bowls: .75 cents
- White shutter: $5.00
- 4 white ceramic plates: $4.00
- 4 vintage vases: $2.00
Total: $12.75
Here we go!
I came across this white shutter at a yard sale for only $5. This was the yard sale of my dreams, ya’ll! While thrifting or yard saling, I like to look for items that are diverse, and can be used in more ways than one.
My vision for this shutter was to use it as a table runner. The length fit our table perfectly!
Next, I added matching ceramic plates that I found for $1 each. Plates are usually an easy and inexpensive find at thrift stores/ dollar store.
Here are the wooden bowls I found at Goodwill for a total of .75! When I go to Goodwill/ thrift store, I always check out the wood section. You’d be surprised at what you can find!
Next, I added the wooden cutting board I found for $1.00. I simply created another layer by placing the cutting board on top of the shutter. This created more of a focal point for the table.
Here is where you can customize for the season. Because we are in Spring, I added flowers to the vintage jars I found at a yard sale. If it’s during Christmas time, fresh stems of greenery would be beautiful, and fitting for the time of year. If you are decorating for 4th of July- simply add mini American flags to bring in patriotism!
I finished the Spring look by adding a little faux greenery.
Here is the finished look! It’s simple, but fresh and versatile!
Tip(s): Personalize the table with name tags, add a pop of color with napkins, and add more layers with chargers under the dinner plate.
Thrifted Look #2: Peter Rabbit/ Easter Themed
Here is look #2 at how I used thrifted items to create a seasonally detailed tablescape.
Remember that $1 cutting board I placed on top of the shutter? I used it in this table setting as well. In fact, I used everything minus the white shutter, and added different elements to represent Easter in the decor.
Here is a Beatrix Potter book I found at a Thrift store for .50! I tore out the pages of Peter Rabbit, and created a place mat out of them. This idea is great for any occasion/ themed party.
Add in coordinating fabric napkins, and a personalize the place setting by creatively adding a name. I chose to write our names on eggs to tie in the Easter theme.
