The idea of making our home into a place of refuge has never been more real than it has in the last 8 weeks or so. Our homes have become our primary place of shelter, rest, work, and play. While the struggle is real, the beauty of home and what it means has surfaced in a whole new way! It’s where we get to come together as a family and experience peace from the chaos outside our 4 walls. Even though I long for the day where we get to spend more time in other places (outside of the house), I still believe there’s no place like home.
This is part of the reason why I get so excited about creating spaces that emulate warmth and comfort. It’s where we spend most of our time, and where we retreat to at the end of a long day. I’ve seen many people use this time to update and/or complete unfinished projects around their home. If you fall in that category, I’ve got your back!
Since I don’t currently have any projects in the works, the next best thing is to do a virtual refresh! I hope this gives you some inspiration, and sparks creativity of your own.
In this blog post, I’ve curated and gathered living room decor inspiration from one of my favorite companies, Birch Lane.
For this look, I went with a french cottage style with some modern elements. When it came to (virtually) creating it, I wanted to include a neutral/ light color scheme.
First, I started with the larger furniture such as: the couch, accent chairs, coffee table and the entryway bench.
Then I picked out pieces that brought contrast, clean lines and complimented the overall look.
Next, I added subtle pops of color. While sticking to the light and airy feel, the pops of color come from: the rug, throw blanket, and greenery.
Tip: An easy way to add pops of color seasonally is to switch out pillows, blankets, and foliage. Add bright colors for spring and summer, and warmer colors for the fall and winter.
Wouldn’t a peach colored throw/pillow bring out the beautiful colors in the rug? SO. MANY. OPTIONS! I could keep going, but here’s a start to a modern french cottage look! It was so fun getting to dream and curate this board.
What decor style would you pick and dream up?
One last thing, since we’re on the topic of Birch Lane- I wanted to share a few photos of their products in our home and from a client’s office update. (Click the photos for direct links)
Thanks for reading! Until next time…
